The newspaper reported that indictment could come down as early as next week as the federal investigation into the lane closings winds down. Three lanes leading to the bridge were closed, creating commuter havoc around the town of Fort Lee, N.J.
The lane closures were ordered by staff members of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. The closings were supposedly done as retribution for Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich, a Democrat who declined to endorse Christie’s re-election bid for governor in 2013.
The Times report said federal investigators have interviewed members of the Borough Council of Fort Lee, and that investigators usually do those interviews toward the end of the process.
